Talking Transition and Participatory Budgeting

 Talking Transition

Blog Post by Emily December, PBNYC and CUNY Service Corps Intern

As soon as I stepped out of the train station and crossed the street to head to Talking Transition NYC, the large white tent was very apparent and huge! The people in orange jackets stood out as well, and to make sure I was at the right location, I walked up to one person who guided me into the tent. Tablets were attached to wood tables, with multi colored fluorescent lights swirled above and boards with stickers in different colors and fonts were all over.

He pointed to the main room and then I was whisked into a great presentation on what we call the “process”. One of my other supervisors, Sondra Youdelman from Community Voices Heard, was on stage explaining to the audience about the conception and the information behind Participatory Budgeting. In a quick, interactive and fun hour long presentation, we all by then learned (or for some, refreshed our memories) how participatory budgeting works and then we started participating!
